I really enjoyed reading this. As someone who has worked with Shmuel, it was nice to catch a glimpse into his other more personal side. That photo with his child sleeping over his laptop is PRICELESS!!
Shmuel, I'm just like you in the way that I need complete silence and no distraction to be able to write.
Thank you so much, Danusia, for featuring me on Parents Who Think, and for all the insightful reflections!
I must add a very recent update to the scene in this picture. Until last week, this was our third bedroom which was functioning as my office, a laundry-hanging place, and, most importantly a hopelessly messy wreck.
I really struggled working there because it was such a disorganized space, and so close to my family. I was home - but not home.
So a few days ago our 9-year-old daughter, Avital, moved into the room, and I’m clearing out our storage room (which is 3 floors beneath our flat) to be a small office (read man cave). We also installed shades on our porch so that the hot Mediterranean sun won’t render it useless most of the time.
I’m really looking forward to the internal effects of having healthier boundaries in our external home spaces!
And to your update: isn’t this amazing news. Your own little office/work pad- and most of all a space where you get to create away from the noise and usual mayhem. Cause for celebration 🎉
I relate to this line so much about best writing time: "Whenever it's quiet and I'm in the mood. I'm an unstable soul, so hard to give a time."
It makes it a challenge with children!
Isn’t that line precious?! It touched me - I’m an unstable soul. Wow, such tenderness sat right there.
How are you Heather?
Indeed it does. Although I must say that children have a stabilizing effect because they project and demand to be simply present.

Thank you both for sharing this.
I feel so lucky to have been able to share Shmuel and how he navigates creative production and family life.
Yes the photo is gorgeous, says it all! 💥
Thanks for the connect Kristi ox
Thanks, Kristi! So happy you appreciated this. And that's so true - good writing doesn't need much more than deep silence.
Hope you liked it 😉
