Wow 18 days to write a book Danusia?? Incredible! Thank you so much for sharing my words here. I loved reconnecting to my writing for this, and have been inspired to sign up to some writing workshops so I am making more time for creative writing in my life x
18 days—needs must! When the fire’s lit (and childcare in place), you just have to run with it. So glad this interview reconnected you to your writing—buzzing to hear you’re diving into workshops! Here’s to making more space for the words that need to be written. ✨
Right?! The productivity industrial complex wants us all doing gentle daily wordcounts and sipping herbal tea at 6am. But some of us don’t write—we detonate. Pressure cooker on, brain boiling, fingers flying. That’s not dysfunction. That’s our rhythm.
Thrilled to meet another deadline-loving maniac in the wild. 🧨📚
Danusia, I remember those times when my kids were small, and needed driving backwards and forwards, and my life was on a timer. I was lucky to have an au-pair to help out in the house, so had a little more time to write. I wrote my romcom in between the school runs and doing the shopping and all the rest of it. Now the children are 30 and almost 33 (!!!) so my time is my own, shared only with my various health issues and the fatigue that comes with them. Congratulations on writing your book so fast!!! Holy crap, I can't even imagine that sort of productivity! I love that sentence about being knocked over by the wind. Just perfect.
I've been writing poetry this past year; poetry just crept up on me, I'd never read any or written any, and then it saved my life and now I'm about to publish a book of poems! To answer your question about perfect sentences or titles, I think the title of my book (which is the title of one of my poems), ILLICIT CROISSANTS AT DAWN, is lovely, and I'm very proud of it.
Now I'll go back to practicing stepping out of that cake we spoke of earlier...
Cesca, Illicit Croissants at Dawn is an utterly delicious title—I’d pick that up in a heartbeat. And poetry just creeping up on you? That’s the kind of magic I love to hear. From romcoms between school runs to poetry that saved your life—what a journey. Kudos to you!
As for stepping out of the cake… I fully expect a flawless performance. No pressure. 💃🎂💥

Yes! Finally someone said it! Some of us thrive in intense, high pressured extended blocks of time.. I knew it couldn't just be me! Laugh 😄
